HW420 Journey On Activity

I have tried relaxation techniques in the past and I have to say that it is not something that I am good at. That said, I did have some success this time.  It was nice just to take the time to relax and become more mindful of my body.  Focusing on my breathing did help me. In fact, I found that when I have trouble falling asleep that just focusing on paying attention to breathing in and out relaxes me so much that before I know it I am asleep. This is something that I know I will have to try several more times in order to master it.

  1. June,

You are definitely a busy woman. We took Humanities together last February. I really enjoyed that class. I am looking forward to this journey as well.
I will be practicing relaxation techniques tonight as I always have difficulty falling asleep at night.
I look forward to future blogging with you.

    1. I don't know how you can remember that we took a class together nearly a year ago, but I am glad to see you again. Yes, I loved Humanities also and still in contact with our Professor.

  2. I am having a really hard time relaxing I think I will take your advice and focus on breathing. I realize this is just the start of this journey, so I believe we will all develop each week.

  3. I have also used relaxation and meditation in the past, including guided meditation (in which someone talks you through the entire process) and previously I have been able to relax. However, I found that I was unable to relax through the Journey On activity to make my hands and arms warm and heavy. I was able to relax my breathing, but not my arms. As a matter of fact my hands ended up colder than when I started the relaxation.

Like you focusing on my breathing often helps me relax physically and psychologically. I know from stress management and my anatomy course that when we force our bodies to breath deep, even if we don't want to - it helps "force" us to relax as well.

I look forward to reading and learning along with you during the next nine weeks!

    1. I have tried guided meditation a few times also and it did relax me. I too am better at controlling my breathing than my body parts. I am looking forward to stress management class which I will be taking next term. I too am looking forward to the next 9 weeks.

  4. June,

I find it amazing how I need to focus on my breathing, something that comes natural to us. I read a book called "The Chi Revolution" by Frank Frantzis. In the beginning he focuses a lot on breathing and talks about we do it wrong, lol. For instance, if we are stressed our breathing may become faster or slower, sometimes I catch myself holding my breathe. Visualizing your blood flowing with each breathe is a wonderful technique in my opinion. When our lives are busy these types are things are not only recommended but they are necessary.

    Keep it up,
    Brandy

  5. June,
I would have to agree that I am also not very good at relaxation techniques. I find it very hard to relax my mind and my body so much; especially when throughout the day I am constantly moving and thinking. Relaxation just isn't something I am use to doing. Even when I do have time to relax, I live with four other girls so I am hardly ever alone (which don't get me wrong I love it and I don't think there is anything better than coming home to your four best friends in the world). This relaxation technique was a little easier. I think the calmness in the man's voice helped out a lot as well.

  6. Hi June,I tried the relaxation technique in this Unit 3 and found that I was completely at peace in my mind and body. It brought me to tears as I felt cleansed.I felt rejuvenated and alive! Everyone should implement these techniques into their life to remain focused and to be re-leaved of the negative energy such as stress. Thank you for sharing Kandi
